If there is immediate danger
Call 999 for police or ambulance. The official Malaysia travel guide lists 994 for fire emergencies. Give the operator your location, nearby landmarks, and the kind of help needed. If safe, stay reachable and follow the operator's instructions.
Before you go out
- Save your accommodation address and your country's embassy contact details offline.
- Share your plans with someone you trust, especially for remote areas or late-night travel.
- Use licensed tour operators, guides, and transport services; confirm the terms before paying.
- Keep valuables secure and carry only what you need. Use well-lit, populated routes when practical.
- For outdoor trips, check local weather and access conditions with the relevant local authority or operator.
If something goes wrong
- Move to a safer public place if you can do so safely, then contact emergency services or local staff.
- For theft or assault, contact police and ask how to make a report; contact your embassy for consular guidance.
- For a road collision, seek emergency help and avoid putting yourself in traffic or other danger.
- Use the official embassy directory guidance to locate your country's mission.
